Course Update – August 6th

The ponds on the golf course have become unsightly with algae blooms and duck weed.  In the past 2022 and 2023 golf seasons we had been trialing a floating water quality unit.  This tool used electromagnetic frequencies to disrupt the algae and for the past few seasons they kept pond quality in check.  This is now the second season without the units in place and we are seeing the algae thrive.  We have been applying a product that is supposed to eliminate the algae.  We have shocked the ponds twice and are now on a bi-weekly application process. We battle many contributors to the pond nutrient levels which impact the algae including the hot dry summer.  We will continue to explore options and avenues to improve the water quality for the remainder of this season and look for a permanent solution for the future seasons ahead.

This week on Thursday weather providing we will be making a large scale fertility and plant protection application to fairways.  We will complete this by spraying the back nine first thing in the morning followed by the front fairways once the tee sheet closes for the afternoon cross over. This should assist our fairways with the disease pressure they are experiencing and assist them through what continues to be a dry summer.  We will also take advantage of the cross over to vent greens on Thursday.  We will vent the back nine greens in the morning followed by the front greens when the tee closes for the crossover.  With a busy month of August ahead, this will allow us to complete agronomic practices that keep our greens in good health and rolling well through the summer stretch. We hope both items will be completed that day and set the stage for a great month of August.

Respectfully,
